Hold on to your 'muu muu', things are about to get scary for Norris. In a plot straight out of Stephen King's Misery, The Mirror reports that Mary Taylor is going to kidnap and imprison the love of her life. Lured to a remote cottage in Bronte country, Norris will be terrified when Mary sabotages the car and phone and then gets violent when he tries to go for help. A Corrie source said: “Mary convinces herself they are reincarnations of Heathcliffe and Cathy and keeps trying to share his bed. Norris escapes to a phone box. When Mary arrives he tries to run and hide but falls and sprains his ankle. Mary refuses to take him to hospital and returns him to the cottage telling him: 'The more helpless you are the stronger I get.'”
Things get really hairy when Norris spots her in the yard with an axe and he has to barricade himself in. The Corrie source added: “At first viewers will be amused by Norris’s plight. But they’ll soon realise that Mary is seriously demented.”

While i'm not surprised Mary turns stalker, you could see that coming a mile away, i am very disappointed that they couldn't come up with a better storyline than a rerun of an older movie plot. Sheesh.

ReplyDelete@ Ena's Hairnet - I agree also. I liked her...I don't see why they had to make her deranged. She seemed so nice before.
Also, this type of behaviour might be as a result of how she had to nurse her now-deceased mother after all these years. Some kind of pyschological problem she has now as a result of that where she has to care for the weak and there's no one for her to care for right now. "The more helpless you are, the stronger I get." I don't think she's demented, she's just a poor unfortunate woman that never got to live a real life...and now probably never will!
They should go back to two or three episodes a week, which would allow them time to concentrate on writing the rich dialogue of Corrie's early years - instead of all the shallow, sensationalist plots aimed at 12 year olds.

ReplyDeleteDont judge it too quick! Its a newspaper comparing it to misery it wont be excatly like that. I think Mary killed her mother ive thought that since she died.

It's very possible that mary could have quietly killed her mother. Her mother was a drag on her and when the open road seemed to beckon and Mary could taste a bit of freedom, her mother would still hold her back. Remember when Norris insisted they return from a short road trip because her mother wasn't feeling well? She never seemed to feel that bad after her mother's death, more of a relief.
ReplyDeleteI always felt she had a "stalker" side to her, an instability. It doesn't surpise me that she'd go to these lengths, i just wish the plot was a bit different.

Hasn't this story been overdone to death? Just about every character on Corrie has had a psycho trying to off them. Not very original, fire the writers!
