Jesse's out

A while back we wondered if Eileen should dump Jesse. We reckoned he was dull and just not good enough for Eileen. I do agree with Flaming Nora that the best bits of Jesse are about his relationship with his unseen mother but since the introduction of the parrot, they really haven't done much with him. You could kind of see the writing on the wall and today the Mirror reports that John Thomson is leaving Coronation Street. There doesn't seem to be any further they can take the character so it looks like Eileen is going to be brokenhearted again.

  1. I liked him but now hes just a bit pathetic and boring. Him and sean as Hia Lowa (is that the right spelling?) would have been a good running storyline. What a waste :(

Never gelled for me, selfish and weak, Eileen is well rid. Has she lost weight by the way, her face seemed much thinner yesterday.

  3. I'm of the opposite opinion, Willie. I don't think Eileen deserves him. She's nasty and always seems bitter, I've never liked the character.

I'm sad to see Jesse go, mainly because I think John Thompson is a brilliant actor and was very sadly under-used.

  4. I'm glad to see him go, never really liked the character at all and he never gelled with Eileen or Corrie.

  5. I think it's a shame - the character had potential but the writers just let it drift.

  6. John Thompson was sadly wasted - he's a great comic actor, but after they brought him in, the writers did nothing with him. I can see why he'd be happy to leave.

  7. I've seen some of John Thompson's excellent work in other series and was looking forward to a long Corrie stint from him.
This is just slack work on the writers' part. He deserved better.
(And Glenda isn't it time you started a gurning page for Eileen?)

  8. He won't really be missed by me. They've made his character so silly, and rather ridiculous. I can't understand it for the most part. Time to push the revolving door of men Eileen...
