Kym Marsh to appear in Popstar to Operastar

Kym Marsh first came to fame through one of the very first reality TV shows - Popstars. And now, as well as appearing as Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, Kym's going back into another reality show, this time it's Popstar to Operastar.

The show launches on Friday, January 15th on ITV1. It'll be hosted by Myleene Klass and Alan Titchmarsh and feature ten popstars training to perform famous opera songs.

Digital Spy confirm those taking part include Blur bassist Alex James, veteran singer Bernie Nolan, McFly's Danny Jones and Pop Idol star Darius Campbell. Jimmy Osmond, ex-Hear'Say singer and Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh, Shakespeare's Sister star Marcella Detroit and Vanessa White from girlband The Saturdays complete the lineup.

Sounds like total dross. But does that mean she's leaving Corrie? Please say she's leaving Corrie. Please. Please, with sprinkles on...

  4. Yup, I'll be giving it a miss too. Just Mylene Klass together with Alan Titchmarsh is enough to put me off.

  5. Its not her (the character's fault) but how come she doesn't have any sort of irish accent and neither did the brothers. Corrie needs some good continuity people.

  7. Margaret - I think the reason why Michelle and her brothers don't have Irish accents is supposedly because they were brought up on an estate in Manchester, they stayed in England, and the parents moved back to Ireland.

  8. More puzzling still is the mystery of Michelle's surname. She has stated that she was married to Ryan's father, and since he was the love of her life, I can't see why she would revert to her maiden name after Darryl's death. Similarly, why is Ryan a Connor? The only explanantion is that, by coincidence, Darryl's surname must have been Connor as well (as when Elsie Tanner married Steve Tanner, thereby not necessitating a change to her monogramed stationary) Or was this just a colossal cock-up on the part of the writers when the extended Connor clan were introduced?
