Confessions: Thu Nov 19, 2009 Corrie Episode Review
Written by Mark Wadlow, directed by David Kester
We start off where we left off last time, with Roy floundering around the canal trying to keep his head above water. Tony wanted to walk off, but in a split moment of guilt, he goes back and saves Roy. He leaves him alive by the canal for Hayley and Becky to find him in their search later.
Meanwhile, Tony's on his way to the police station, where he confesses all to the detectives.
Maria is still in denial, until Hayley loses it and tells her that she knows her finance is a murderer. Maria is in shock, and gets Michelle to go down to the police station. The police give Maria five minutes with Tony. She asks why he did it, and Tony says he regretted killing Liam the second it happened. He insists he was in love with her and baby Liam and would never hurt them. Maria tells him that she wished they'd hang him, and that she'd be there to watch, cheer on, then dance on his grave. Tears stream down Tony's face as he leaves the room and hears Maria burst into sobs on the other side of the wall. And here we have it folks: it all ending in tears.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Tony going back and saving Roy from a watery death. I'd miss our Roy! Even if he had been annoying the hell out of me these last weeks.
- Hayley having to lose it on Maria so she'd snap out of her denial! She should have slapped her!
- Becky having no idea what's going on, but there for the Croppers when they need them, no questions asked.
- The fact that there actually was a colony of bats at the canal after all. Tony hadn't planned it all out as we'd originally thought.
- Roy having nearly drowned to death, then saved, then left in the cold, then rescued, the spent time in hospital, then going home and deciding that recording in the bat journal was a priority. The man does not dwell at least.
LOWLIGHTS:
- Maria deciding to go home and have Michelle console her, rather than helping poor Hayley find her husband, possibly at the hands of Maria's fiance.
- No one explaining to Audrey what's going on. The poor woman is in the dark!
- Roy nothing thinking that Tony is a murderer in his heart. Who cares? He's still a murderer, doesn't change the fact. I think Roy just likes to believe that his little "conscience" lectures did the trick.
- Tony giving up Jimmy Dockerson to the police. Didn't he promise Jimmy he wouldn't do that? I guess he's not much of a man of his word.
- Maria and Tony's relationship ending in the tears we all knew it would.

I kinda got confused with Maria running around here and there...everywhere except to the canal to find Roy...
ReplyDeleteNow perhaps we can say good bye finally to the Maria character for a bit...as much as I enjoyed the Tony/Liam/Carla/Maria plot -- it's been brewing for over a year and I wouldn't be too sad if it wrapped up quickly now-- esp. with Maria -- go away Maria...move to Ireland with the Connor clan -- the entire lot of 'em ...and let's get some other plotlines started...
I wish Hayley had slapped Maria for being schtewpid.
ReplyDeleteStill, it won't be long before Maria is over it all, and on to her next conquest. Can't live without a man that one.
Did anyone else find the notion of a convalescing heart-attack victim diving into a freezing pitch-black canal to rescue a man, drag him bodily ashore, *and* administer CPR to him just a *tad* improbable?
ReplyDeleteBilly - totally.
ReplyDeleteYes, where was Tony's watch that beeps when his heart rate goes up?! We didn't even see him clutch his chest at all or anything, so a bit unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteThe bit where Tony confessed to the police was very creepy because he was just so calm about it all, he almost made his sins seem rational! I have to say I thought the last scene was brilliant, very good acting from Gray and Samia.
What a pity Tony had a (rather unbelievable) change of heart, he should have left Roy to sleep with the fishes, Tony could have lived to kill another day and two boring characters could have been disposed of.
ReplyDeleteErm why bwould maria go to the cannal to look for roy?? She wasn't running everywhere she was in the cafe, then home and when she found out tony confessed she went to the police station. If you can't up with THAT???
ReplyDeleteAny way annother great ep from corrie. That final scene with maria and tony was amzing and the acting from samia and gray was also amazing.
Gonna miss maria while shes away, have really grown to love the character - warts and all. Samia said recently that when she returns maria will be much stronger and im hoping maria will give men a wide birth for a while. I'm sure she'll be fighting them off though!
Well done corrie!!!!!!!!!
I thought it was great! I did wonder why Hayley took so long to run to the canal, mind you and yes, Billy, good point about Tony's heart. But then he was on the factory floor (for about 2 minutes) only a week or so after a heart attack so severe he nearly didn't make it through the night.
ReplyDeleteThe Tony murder plot really has run almost bone dry...please Corrie writers -- give us a quick sentencing if he's confessing to everything and doesn't want a solicitor ---on to other stuff and other characters...
ReplyDeleteGetting pretty tired with the Maria character...I also would like to see her pack up and leave for Ireland -- after all, now there's too many bad memories in the Cobbles...sister-in-law Michelle and her annoying son Ryan can do same...
Maria does go to ireland for a bit while the actress has metrnity leave. Samia had a baby girl Freya on 19 october! Maria will however return early next year as will tony. Gray o'brien contract has been extended!
ReplyDeleteHowever the tony saga doesn't finish this year untill xmas - carla return oh joy and lies through her backside to protect herself so it drags further on!
The silly thing about Tony's heart is that it could have just as easily been written as a mild heart attack (with Tony still thinking he was dying and hence confessing to Roy), then his sudden recovery wouldn't have been quite so ridiculous (have the writers ever seen someone who has had a major heart attack?)
ReplyDeleteAnd with a mother-in-law like that, it is completely unbelievable that Maria would choose to go and live with her. I'd have thought it would have been better to have her go and stay with her parents in Cyprus for a while.
I don't think Maria would go to her parents, actually. They don't seem to give a damn about her and missed both the wedding and the baby's birth and only showed up for Liam's funeral. They didn't even come to see the baby after the birth and Maria had to go visit them the other week, having had to cut that short because of Tony's heart attack. Did they fly back with her? did they heck.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Tvor. Whilst the Connor parents can be overbearing, at least they actually care, unlike Maria'a parents.
ReplyDeleteGet over it, Tony haters, your guy Liam WANTED to leave.
ReplyDeleteI'll take Gray O'Brien over pretty boy can't act his way out of a paper bag ANYDAY.
