The big story this week saw Oliver die in hospital after Leanne dropped the case and gave up the fight to keep her son alive. As regular readers of these weekly updates will know, I’ve skipped all of this storyline. In these horrible, dark days where there’s a virus that kills, I’ve found the story about Oliver too hard to watch. For my own state of mind, I’ve had to fast forward it all. Yes, I know it’s an issue that Corrie is raising to bring awareness, to help and support other families going through the same thing. And for that they should be applauded. But six times a week of dying and death has been too much to bear, for this fan, as I struggle to cope with what’s going on in the real world, never mind in the world of soap.
Elsewhere this week, as Yasmeen’s trial looms, Tim visits her in jail. He tells Yasmeen he’s willing to be a witness and that he’ll testify against Geoff. Tim and Alya join forces to find out where Geoff disappears to in Oldham and discover he’s got another woman there, called Christine, who Alya tries to warn off. Tim’s convinced that his real mother, Elaine, is still alive and might help bring Geoff down in the trial, if only he could find her.
Toady Todd continues his plan to split up Billy and Paul and turns on the charm offensive with Summer, who falls for his kind words.
Over in the Rovers, Johnny gets a visit from Margaret, the mum of the security guard who Johnny injured many years ago. And what a wonderful actress she is, the sort of woman that Corrie needs more of, please! Margaret blames Johnny for the death of her son, who drank himself to an early grave after Johnny hit him with the getaway car. But then Margaret reveals that her son was attacked by Scott, and this is something that Johnny didn’t know. Is Johnny feeling guilty over something he didn’t do? Was it really Scott’s attack that led Margaret’s son into a spiral of drink and despair?
Johnny turns himself into the cops and they come to arrest him in a wonderful, farcical scene in the Rovers. Jenny is tipsy on wine after her stepdaughter Daisy arrives for a visit with her fella. But not only is Jenny tipsy, she’s angry too, after Johnny clears out their joint account and tells her he wants a divorce. When the cops take Johnny away, Jenny drinks in the back room of the Rovers, alone, until Carla arrives and tells her the truth about Johnny’s plan. He’s cleared their joint account as a ploy to give all the money to Jenny if he has to go to jail, so the cops can’t touch his cash. Drunk, angry Jenny was an absolute joy to watch and Sally Ann Mathews played an absolute blinder, I thought.

It was a shame those heartfelt scenes with Leanne were juxtaposed with the silly scenes of Jenny and Johnny. Not liking Jenny's stepdaughter either. Don't we already have enough characters on the show? Also, the Rovers backroom must be cursed because last week Peter was vile to Carla and this week Johnny was abhorrent to Jenny.
I agree with the above comments and would like to add that it's not the first time that the writers have ruined emotional scenes as they did the same thing when Deirdre died juxtaposing scenes with Callum and the Platts[Bethany and Sarah]with Deirdre's funeral which considering that Anne Kirkbride passed away showed disrespect.
They always try to lighten the dark or sad events by doing this. Why are you surprised? Skip over the parts you don't want to see...you do have a choice.
