I still think Nick Tilsley should had been the roof saboteur, not Gary Windass. He could’ve made the next Mike Baldwin figure for the street. He was actually compelling to watch last year when he became a villain. He should've been the super villain instead of Gary. For someone who was supposed to be a super villain, Gary’s storyline has been very disappointing and Geoff has completely overshadowed him.

We were promised a Mike Baldwin-type villain who could live on the Street without having to leave with a comeuppance exit storyline. You need a multi-layered character played by a very skilled actor for that. Actually, I don't think either actor (Mikey N and Ben P) could play that role because, despite being competent actors, neither has great screen presence. A better villain, although his current storyline doesn't lend itself to the role, is Imran Habeeb, Yasmeen's solicitor. Charlie De Melo is very compelling to watch.

I agree with what you said about Mikey North, as he was given the super villain/ Mike Baldwin role and it hasn’t been convincing at all. Taking into account all the hype Iain Macleod and Coronation Street gave him, he should be the biggest villain on the show, but it’s clearly Geoff. But I think that’s more to do with Gary not being the right character for the role. Even now, the Mike Baldwin comparison is ridiculous. I think it’s harsh to say the same about Ben Price. He wasn’t given the role, so we don’t know how good he would had been. And I do agree with anonymous 13:27, I did actually found Nick more compelling to watch when he was a villain and around the time it looked like I wasn’t the only one. Charlie De Melo is a great actor and it could had been interesting to see Imran as a Mike Baldwin type villain, but Imran has never come across as having a villainous side.

Have they actually said that Gary is this Baldwin-like villain? I think Ray is more suited to that role, being a business man who's quite well off and has no scruples when it comes to blackmailing someone to get what he wants (did Mike ever do that, he did some underhand things?!)

Alan Bradley is still my favourite villain. That storyline was compelling for quite a long time.

Iain MacLeod said this about the new super villain before we knew it was Gary Windass: “Corrie can have baddies who come in, burn bright and then are gone, but also a more long-range type, like Mike Baldwin, who is ruthless and self-serving and rides roughshod over everybody. We're designing a character who is more of that latter type, who can stay in the show for ever as an antagonist just messing up everyone's lives”
