A Very Corrie send off

Photo copyright the Evening Standard via Getty Images
Superfan Martyn Hett's funeral was held this morning in Stockport. As you know, Martyn was killed in the bombing at the arena in Manchester on May 22. The Evening Standard (and many other media outlets) have photos taken as mourners arrive for the funeral today. As I scrolled through them and saw the sendoff they gave him, my first thought was "oh bless him". Crowds of people gathered at Stockport Town Hall, with large video screens outside for the overflow.

Martyn was brought to the venue in a gorgeous white carriage pulled by two white horses. His coffin was uniquely Coronation Street themed with the face of his beloved cat, Emily Bishop on the front and the word "Iconic" on the lid. Several Coronation Street stars attended the funeral including Jennie McAlpine, Antony Cotton, Kym Marsh and producer Kate Oates.

This young man was a vibrant soul who loved life. He will be missed.

Should Sinead and Chesney get back together again?

After the fall-out from Daniel's meltdown, Sinead moved out of the flat he shares with Adam, and back in with Chesney.  It's certainly looking like Sinead and Chesney might be getting back together again - but should they?

Is Sinead the right girl for Ches? Is Ches the right boy for her?

I don't think so.  She's too flighty for him, I feel, and he needs someone more reliable and solid.

But with the upcoming bloodbath in the Bistro next week in which Chesney gets stabbed and carted off to hospital, could things change between them, I wonder. And will Chesney in hospital bring out Sienad's more caring side?

It's all supposition at the moment but if these two get back together again, I'll be saddened to see it, for Chesney's sake more than Sinead's. He deserves someone better, someone who won't go running off again.

What do you reckon?

Sally Lindsay confirms no Coronation Street return

Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's Good Morning this week.

Sally was on the show to promote her role in the new series of Mount Pleasant, and of course she was asked whether she was returning to Corrie in the future.

Her reply was this:  "I'd love to (go back in) but I'm afraid this year - no time. I love Corrie, it's great. It's like I'm putting it down but I'm not it's moved on. It's a juggernaut that moves on and it was wonderful being there and I've got lifelong friends from that but that was the past."

Earlier in the interview, she was asked: "You’ve done so many things, but it’s Coronation Street everyone insists on mentioning though."

And Sally said: "What do you do? After you walk those cobbles, that’s it. It’s been 13 years now and I’m still not going back! I’ve been in Mount Pleasant for longer than I was in Coronation Street."

Well, such is the power of Coronation Street that once you've been in it, you'll probably always be associated with it. And that can be no bad thing for anyone on TV.

Shame though, that she's not returning. I really like the actress and the character of Shelley was complex too.

Where are they now? Corrie Icons of the 90s - Phil Middlemiss

Phil Middlemiss played the role of Des Barnes from 1990 to 1998 when his character was killed off.

Following his time on Coronation Street, Phil has appeared regularly on television, most notably in the part of David Buckley in the drama Where the Heart Is for six years from 2000. He also starred in Doctors, Cold Blood, Casualty, Silent Witness and The Last Detective.

For several years he was in a relationship with Alison King who later appeared in Coronation Street as Carla Connor although they have since split up.

In 2012 Phil was declared bankrupt after investing in an African film. The MEN have the story here.
