Coronation Street spoiler: Nasty Neil cop shock for Platts
There’s a nasty shock for the Platts next week in Coronation Street.
Sarah’s so worried about Bethany and her relationship with Nathan that she tells Gary that their only option is to talk to the police for advice.
A copper duly calls round at the Platts and Sarah tells them everything she knows about Nathan, unaware that the officer is Nathan’s mate, Neil, who Bethany slept with at Nathan’s party.
Sarah pours her heart out to Neil, admitting the family are at breaking point over her daughter’s much older, controlling boyfriend.
Neil then informs Bethany and Nathan of his conversation with Sarah – and Bethany’s fuming. Neil takes her back the Platts where she tells Sarah she wants nothing more to do with her mum. Then Nathan suggests they invite Neil and Ian over so Bethany can show her gratitude. Knowing what will be expected of her, will Bethany agree?

Enough already! This story is just getting worse and worse! Please finish it soon, this is supposed to be a family show. How are our youngsters supposed to trust the police when you're showing sh!t like this?
I agree with Anon. The show has made their point. I'm tired of Platt drama and I hope they don't drag this out for over a year like they did with the Callum/Kylie storyline.
Enough!
It's too bad - prior to this the show was highlighting an issue that needed to be talked about. But that's now been undermined by this plot "twist" that makes it seem like it might not be a good idea for kids to go to the police. What were they thinking?
Jeanie (anon): Find this plot line increasingly exploitative. Will sweet blonde 16 year-old Bethany sexually serve two much older men to show her gratitude? Come on! This sex slave storyline is voyeuristic porn. Please: no more posturing about trying to educate the public!
This is ridiculous. Sarah calls the police and it's Neal who shows up. Are all distraught parents in Weatherfield who call about their daughters assigned to him? If so, why wasn't he the one who questioned Nathan and Bethany when that other girl went missing?
It was bad enough when it was implied that Bethany would find out Neil was a cop but to have her mother report the crime to a corrupt officer is a terribly irresponsible twist.
Really good point. How many officers are there in Manchester? They get Neil? So American style soap opera!

All the soaps love making the police look either evil or really thick and incompetent!
Such a shame the storyline is going this way. I get that soaps should be allowed a certain lee-way for entertainment purposes but Neil didn't need to be the interviewing officer. That was taking things beyond credibility. It would have been equally dramatic if another officer did the interview but allocated the Platt visit to Neil.
Yes, I agree, they botched this storyline. For all their bravado and endless news articles about bringing awareness to this horrific subject, they totally missed the mark with this Neil character. It is SO contrived, over the top and counterproductive to the story it is laughable. What's next? Neil and Nathan pull out light sabers and hold the entire Platt family hostages in their own home....only to be saved by BigFoot on a motorcycle?
We are talking about the same show that has an actress relive one of the most painful experiences a woman can have (Kym Marsh losing her baby)...so really how can we be shocked.
I too am disgusted as I bought into the awareness crap they fed us with this sex slave storyline.
Tsk tsk.
I agree - nothing but voyeuristic porn, and anti-cop. The powers that be should be ashamed for taking what could be a helpful and enlightening story line and turning it into something crass. And the worst part is that it discourages kids and families from going to the cops. Sad.
Not sure what the fuss is about, this is about the Platts not the Waltons. Toyah was brutally raped in a back alley around the corner as a teenager. Rosie Webster was the Lolita of the Cobbles, plenty of teen girls have been deflowered then spent months being the street bike before coming to their senses. Corrie is now a hard edged gritty soap where murderers walk free. The show is catering to its new base, not the Mavis/Emily fans of old. Expect more of the same or stop watching.
Leaves a real bad taste in my mouth..it's now just about ratings and vile as can be. IMO this is just sick. Not watching...just sticking my feeble 2 cents worth in. Corrie has sunk to a new low. Now it's a 3 some coming up with Bethany and Nathan's sick sidekicks..almost pornographic...
Thanks for letting me rant...
Ugh. I think it's time to wrap this one up folks! I sure hope someone from the show reads these comments because I think we've all reached the same point with this story. I know plenty of people who don't post here too that are getting disgusted as well. Agreed that it's now just become a voyeuristic porn story and not the public service type message they claimed to be sending originally.
They have gone far to far to have the investigating police officer the same guy who Bethany was forced to have sex with. Sickening.
Jeanie (anon):
Anon 22:16--I don't think it's about having a gritty plotline-like Toyah (or Carla for that matter) being raped or Rosie's escapades. Those are great. It's when you extend out the story and show the on-going sexual degradation of an innocent young woman, literally milking it over a period of months--complete with titillating spoilers about threesomes, further sexual abuse to "punish" her, torture. It starts to seem pretty exploitative--to show a woman (young, blond, beautiful, virginal) being repeatedly degraded and sexually objectified for viewers' entertainment.
In Canada there is a big warning before the show starts. This child abuse story is disgusting and I am not watching Corrie until it is over. If I want to feel anxious I will watch the news; if I want to escape the anxieties of life, I (used to) watch Coronation Street. As a survivor of child abuse, this story line deeply disturbs me.
