Should Freddie have shared his winnings with Rita - Yay or Nay?

Should Freddie have shared his fruit machine winnings with Rita, last night in Coronation Street?  I think he should have split the winnings 50-50, but my husband on the other end of the sofa, thinks not.   He thinks that Freddie should have given Rita a tenner at the most, as all she did was lend him a quid.

I also think it was somewhat out of order for Rita, who isn't short of a bob or two herself, to snap at Freddie like that over what would have been, at most, £50.

Could the jackpot storyline mean a fall out between Freddie and Rita, I wonder? And might it even signal the end of Freddie on the street as his exit storyline?

The actor who plays Freddie, Derek Griffiths, is leaving the show - to do this.

Yes. In US casinos, if someone is your 'Lucky Lady' at the game tables (when she sits with you, you start winning), you generally give her a small share of your winnings. When you buy a winning lottery ticket, it is also customary to give a tip (10% or so) to the clerk, usually a minimum wage worker, who sold it to you. Can't speak to English custom, but if I were him, I'd have offered her a 15% commission on the spot OR immediately ordered a round for table a step up from their usual, and for Luke as well, as they're co-workers and his last bit of cash helped fill the machine.

I agree with abbyk about Freddie giving the equivalent of a finder's fee or tip to Rita or buying a small round. An even split would be too much.

Rita risked nothing. She is entitled to her loan of one pound back and that is it. If she wanted half, she should be asking for half of the net winnings as Freddie put in quite a few quid of his own before hitting the jackpot so 50 quid for her "share" is much too much. She can ask but Freddie isn't obligated to share any part of his net winnings let alone the gross amount.

I agree with you Chaise, all Rita said was that she wanted her quid back so if Freddie had lost, she would want it back pronto now that he won 100 quids, she's being greedy for even asking for more.

If Rita had given Freddie the £1 with encouragement and that cheeky wink then yes give her a tenner and a vodka and tonic.. But she gave it grudgingly so Freddie take Audrey out on the town.
