Kylie Platt to be killed off in Coronation Street

Kylie Platt is being killed off in Coronation Street, ITV have revealed.

David is to be left devastated by the death of his wife Kylie - just as the couple finally find happiness. With Tony Stewart in the frame for Callum’s murder it looks as though David, Kylie and Sarah are home and dry.

However Kylie is uncomfortable about letting an innocent dead man take the wrap for a crime she committed. She suggests the family leave Weatherfield once and for all and put the events of the past year behind them.

But their excitement and future plans are cut short by Kylie’s unexpected death. The details of how Kylie dies are being kept under wraps so viewers can watch the events unfold on screen.

ITV have released the above photo from the on air promo which show Kylie packing her belongings into a car but as the mood switches the vehicle is revealed to be a hearse surrounded by her devastated family and friends.

Paula Lane said: “It was very emotional to film the scenes knowing that I would never return and her death has huge consequences for David and all the family.”

Kylie’s final episodes will air week beginning Monday July 11th.

Oooohhhh didn't see that coming! Wonder if she'll take her own life? Or maybe an accident?

Typically short sighted. Killing off one of the best characters. Same as with Tina.

Such a shame. You'd think that they'd want to leave the door open for such a talented actress. Bye bye Kylie and all the best to Paula Lane.

Obviously the truth doesn't "come out" in this case, or else Sarah and David would be charged as accessories.

Maybe the leaving Weatherfield thing is all a ploy and she really does kill herself suddenly, leaving behind a note/video/whatever with a selective story that doesn't implicate them. Because I can't see someone unexpectedly murdering her for no reason.

Why oh why can't anything be left as a surprise?

Why oh why do they have to make out that actors are irreplaceable!

They could've sent her to prison for Callum's manslaughter and then have another Kylie come home (much as they did with Tracy, and no-one remembers the original now).

It makes me so angry to kill off characters so unnecessarily!

They could have left this as a surprise, I still don't get why they made Leanne's mystery visitor so secretive when it has been all over the press. They need to stop giving the game away in this day and age, particularly with 6 episodes to plough through for the odd decent scene in future - need a reason to watch through the padding and repetition.

This is not good. Firstly that one of Corrie's most talented actors can never return and secondly, what is the point of watching with no element of surprise. The 'I didn't expect that' and the resultant shock waves are the components that make exciting viewing.

And, as above, the mystery of Leanne's caller was ridiculous when we all know who it was. Pathetic. Contrived out of nowhere, a flurry of interest from men so that we may guess who the caller was - even though we know?? Duh! Everyone involved in the script layout and writing need to take a reality check, at least now and again.

I wish Paula Lane all the best in the future, such a great actress will go far I am sure.

I agree with everything said above. Firstly Tina, now Kylie. It's like tptb are trying to "punish" these excellent actresses for leaving and trying different things. Also, Becky 'll be a no show at her sisters funeral.
Does that mean we'll also have a custody battle with Marion for Max? Hope not and they let Marion see sense and let him grow up with his sister.
Also agree about the Leanne mystery visitor. In both these cases, "less is more", and if they hadn't have released those spoilers, it'd have made brilliant, exciting viewing for everyone. Slapped legs ITV

One of the sad things these days is that there is no consistency. Kylie's death could be seen as poetic justice but she was never a villain. Tracy, oth, keeps bouncing back like a demented Aunt Sally. If Kylie's going to commit suicide and leave a note, they had better start showing her as starting to crack under the strain.

Possibly, Gemma twigs why Kylie is leaving but, as Kylie keeps denying it, thinks Callum's murder was to do with him wanting to see Max. Getting the wrong end of the stick, Gemma tells one of Callum's gang who takes revenge. The storyline was pointless from the beginning as Kylie was protecting Sarah.

Leanne had a secret caller/visitor? When was that? I watch Corrie religiously but no idea what you lot are talking about and I don't read newspapers so maybe this one passed me by?

Anyway this whole Callum murder thing has been pointless and strange from the start as far as I'm concerned. There was Sarah being attacked/strangled by Callum. Kylie comes in, sees what's happening and in an attempt to get Callum off Sarah, wallops him on the shoulder with a wrench or whatever it was. Up to that point everything was fair enough. They discover they've accidently/unintentionally killed him so now comes the most ridiculous ongoing storyline! ... Why bother covering it up? Why not call the police there and then? It just gets worse and worse after that - burying the body and Sarah loosing it etc etc. All so pointless and unnecessary. I know Corrie isn't the only one with a similar story as it's happened before - and I was equally puzzled then too. I know they probably needed an ongoing storyline to allow Paula Lane, who I agree is a very talented actress, to leave the show so I suppose a means to an end.

Oh well,I shouldn't be surprised I suppose where soaps are concerned. :)

I actually think killing Kylie is the only way to get rid of her - we had the whole plotline of her running away from her family once before, the last time Paula Lane was pregnant, and I can't see it happening again. Since David is going nowhere (pretty sure he's the new Ken Barlow on that front) death is the only way to remove her from the family unit. It also means that Max and Lily can stay. As for closing off a return - I'm pretty sure Paula Lane is in the Suranne Jones/Katherine Kelly/Sarah Lancashire category of Corrie leavers: she's a superb actress who will do just fine and never need to come back.

My objection to this storyline is purely that I know it's going to happen. There's no point in me tuning in now. No mystery at all.

Please please please don't put major spoilers in article headlines. "SPOILER ALERT: KYLIE PLATT" would have allowed those of us who don't want to know a chance to skip over, and those who do a reason to dig in. Thanks.

In all good faith Abbyk, I read the storyline first on The Mirror website prior the reading it on this blog. The headline was funeral filmed in Coronation Street, So stupidly, I fell for it and went and read the article. I then went to this blog page to have it confirmed. Therefore, if you hide it on this site, there are a zillion other places on the internet to read it.

I'm disappointed that they're ending the storyline like this. I quite enjoyed most of it and this is deflating. With the only mystery of how she dies left to discover, it's definitely an anti climax.

Why waste a big story like this? Because they calculate that more people will watch now than would have done otherwise. So the only way to stop them doing this kind of thing is not to watch the episode.

Although I agree with everyone's shock about Kylie being killed off,I think by not having them call the police right away, the writers painted themselves in a corner and thought this was the only solution.
Perhaps Kylie wants to confess all including David's and Sarah's part in Callum's murder so maybe since she's not seen in the photo,Gail kills her to protect her family[mainly Sarah]?

I wonder if Callums 'mates' will exact their revenge on poor Kylie? I really loved Paula as an actress. Now who is left who can act besides Roy, Norris, Rita? Am I really going to look forward to a 6th episode in the week when the actors and story lines are so dumb? :(

This is really like an American soap. Next thing you know Kylie's long lost twin will show up and marry David and then it will turn out it's really Kylie with amnesia that miraculously cures itself and everyone lives happily ever after. Until Lily goes on a murderous rampage...

Very disappointed that they would kill off Kylie.

If people are getting upset about spoilers there is a simple fix. Stop visiting the places where spoilers can be found like the website and social media. It's really the only way you're going to stop seeing them.

Re Liz Bryant. As I previously said, on another thread, I was reading a news website, not this one and there was the headline, with a photo of Kylie standing next to the hearse. I didn't go looking for spoilers. Also, I don't use Facebook or Twitter, not everyone does. Unfortunately I couldn't have avoided this spoiler

Final words on this "spoiler"...

1. We have always posted spoilers and will continue to post spoilers. This blog started in 2007 and has always posted spoilers.

2. The Kylie death story was an ITV press release - not a tabloid spoiler. ITV Coronation Street *wanted its viewers to know* that this character was being killed off.
