Ian Kelsey joins Coronation Street as soap's new bad guy

Actor Ian Kelsey has joined the cast of Coronation Street as a new bad guy who'll be in cahoots with Pat Phelan.

Former Where the Heart Is, Emmerdale and Doctors actor Ian Kelsey has been cast as dodgy businessman Vinny, an old associate of Phelan.

With Jason off the scene, Phelan is helping Eileen look after his business interests but he has big plans of his own - which is where property developer Vinny comes in.

Ian, who also starred in Blue Murder and Casualty, started filming today (Friday June 17th) and will be on screen from August.

He hasn't aged that well in the 20 odd years since he left Emmerdale. I used to fancy Dave Glover.

Oh good. There are far too may good two shoes on Corrie, about time they had a nasty, mean character. ...

Yet another bad guy, too many nasty people in soap land these days. Corrie is beginning to turn into Eastenders. Where has the humour gone?

Both Kim Tate and Dave Glover in Corrie now. Weird!

I'd love the idea of Erica and Vinny getting together like in Emmerdale

Oh well, if he's a friend of Phelan's, it's not going to be a permanent new character then. A few episodes at most, I'd say.

I guess Todd will twig what Phelan's up to and, yet again, Eileen won't believe him. What are the chances of Phelan's mate hooking up with Liz? Pretty high, I'd say.

Since Vinny is a property developer, perhaps he and Phelan steals Eileen's house from under her?
Perhaps that is the scam Phelan had in mind when he told Alastair he had bigger fish to fry in Weatherfield?

But does Eileen actually own the house - was that ever made clear? Or did I miss that episode?

yes, eileen does own the house.

Maybe Phelan will try and scam everyone out to develop the Street into more flats. Will he be caught before Steve makes him pregnant from a one night stand? Noooo, but maybe Tracy can make herself useful and get rid of Phelan... Cause she won't have to worry about being held accountable.
