There's a live hour-long episode of Coronation Street coming our way in September this year. It's to celebrate the 60th birthday of ITV.
However, it's a live episode that will be without Leanne Battersby, played by Jane Danson.
Executive Producer Kieran Roberts said: "We’re delighted to be marking ITV’s 60th anniversary with a live
episode from Coronation Street’s brilliant new studios and set. We’re immensely proud of our
new home and it’s been the most amazing first year of production. The
cast, writers, and production team are exhilarated by the prospect of a
live broadcast as the programme’s 50th anniversary episode was received
so brilliantly by the audience."
In this week's TV Times magazine there is an exclusive interview with Corrie actress Jane Danson in which she talks about the current storyline with Simon.
It goes on to mention that for Jane's performance in the live 50th anniversary episode - the tram crash - in December 2010, Jane won the Best Dramatic Performance Award at the British Soap Awards.
And at the end of the interview talk turns to the live episode to be shown later this year.
Jane said: "Having been a massive part of the last one, I just feel I've ticked that box, so I said to the bosses, 'I'd rather sit this one out'.
Instead, Jane will take a holiday in the sun with her husband and her two sons. Jane's husband is actor Robert Beck who played Tony Gordon's henchman Jimmy Dockerson on Coronation Street.

Just as an aside - Рatti clare (Mary) was born in 1976 so is 39 years old(mary is 41). so this рuts her on a рar (age-wise) with Kym Ryder (michelle) 1976 Kate Ford (Tracey)1976 Jane danson (leanne) 1977, hayley tamaddon (andrea)1977 and younger than Alison king (Carla)1973 katy cavanagh (Julie) 1973. so this begs the question - why don't we see her рeers chase norris and tie him uр? :) John H
Because her peers have more sense than to chase an old biddy busybody nearly twice their age! ;)
