With thanks to Corriepedia for the reminder of this wonderful anniversary.
Today in 1979, Audrey Potter made her first appearance on Coronation Street. She turned up for Gail's engagement party to Brian. Long live Audrey, she's wonderful.
Re-live Audrey's first scene on Coronation Street, via the wonders of YouTube, below. Audrey appears at 10 minutes in.
We all know Sarah and Bethany can't possibly stay on to live at Gail's house, there simply isn't the room. I'd love at least one of them to go and live with Aud, she'd soon sort them out.

My favourite!!
Audrah needs a storyline instead of just turning up at Gail's all the time and calling everyone Sweed Tart. And NOT a romance with doddery old Ken!
Sarah and Bethany both need someone with a backbone to set them on the straight and narrow and that someone is the wonderful Audrey. Audrey is not seen often enough, though I guess she is busy plodding through the giant book. Agree...no romance with Ken....bring back a re-reformed Lewis or Archie.
Our Aud is far too much woman for Ken! She is absolutely one of my favourites...
Rebecca in TO
Characters will have viewers who love them and others who hate them; unpopular characters like Tracy still have a few defenders, while hugely popular characters like Sally will still have a few detractors - I even recall someone on this blog admitting to disliking Roy! But I have never, ever met anyone who dislikes the glorious Audrey! She's my absolute favourite, and I echo the call to give her more to do (and no more cross-dressers!)
Ahhh...I truly enjoy the lovely Mrs. Roberts with her glorious long scarves!! An always elegant doting mom, grandmom and great-grandmom...long live Audrey!
Long live Audrey indeed! And let's see her at her lovely home once in a while. I can see her as a good influence on Bethany, who seems to like her, but I think Sarah-L is perhaps beyond help from her Gran. In many ways, she's being overshadowed by her daughter.
I know everyone loves Audrey, but let's also admit she was a cr*p mother to Gail, a dubious wife to Alf (in flighty times), and, in her teen years, probably not unlike Bethany in certain ways. So, yes, I agree, Bethany should move in with Aude and see how that goes...soul sisters?
Wouldn't be nice if despite her tinsel front, it turned out that Bethany was extremely bright (inklings of that with her Tolstoy knowledge) and Audrey paid for her to go to Oak Hill.
