Getting a bit fed up with Anna and the hunched world on her shoulders look. We need a break from this family and their ongoing problems. Nice to see Katy opening the biscuit tin and stuffing her face the other day, and they cant afford soap powder??
Jean Alexander, ( Hilda Ogden) has just now briefly summed up the show she featured on, quite well.
Much of the humour HAS gone out of the show, there IS too much bed-hopping.
The street "Hilda" 'lived on' was, as she put it, " gentle, funny, human" and even though, "the show must move on" I've found that I have trouble identifying with these characters now.
I used to appreciate the care and continuity that went into each carefully crafted episode. The characters I could say "oh, she's just like..." , they were true characterizations, you knew them, you wanted to know them, you thought about them after the show ended.
The show was worth more than just being a half hour show you sat through, switched off, and forgot.
It was genuine entertainment.
I guess Peter is on the way out. This time around, the Grim Reaper is associated with Peter's drinking problem. Seems pretty healthy before he started drinking again, but this time around, anyone close to Peter seems to think the booze will kill him.
Anonymous @14:49: I'm a (still sober) recovering alcoholic and it is said that if you relapse you pick up drinking where you left off, and the progression downhill is rapid. I sadly can count 4 fellow recovering addicts in the past year who relapsed (some for a short period, some long) who have met the end this way.
Thanks Anon@22.35 it is very interesting to hear from someone who knows the facts through experience. Good luck.
Oh HORROR - Sally will have to consume INSTANT mash. How will she cope? Who will she turn to in her time of need? I will be riveted to the screen to learn. Good grief.
Amen, Jean Alexander. Amen.
