Tonight: 'Coronation Street: A Moving Story'

Don't miss this tonight, whatever you do. It's a FANTASTIC documentary.

Tonight on ITV1, Coronation Street: A Moving Story follows the Street’s ambitious move of its entire production, cast and crew from its 53-year-old base at Granada Studios to its new home in Trafford.

There is unprecedented access behind the scenes as Corrie stars like Sally Dynevor, Helen Worth and Jane Danson pack up their dressing rooms and film their final scenes on set at the old studios. The documentary also features previously unseen footage of Coronation Street being filmed in the early 1960s and tells the story of the evolution of filming the series - this new set is the fifth incarnation in the show's history.

Show creator Tony Warren relives the moment he drove around the streets of Salford with the shows designer looking for the inspiration for the original Coronation Street set.

Barbara Knox takes one final tour of the old set before saying a tearful farewell to the studios that she has called home for nearly 50 years.

Julie Goodyear says an emotional goodbye to the Rovers Return at Granada, a set that gave her 25 glorious years.

The programme also records the final scenes ever to be filmed at Coronation Street on the Granada site while actors including Ryan Thomas and Samia Ghadie are filmed looking around the new set for the first time.

Features contributions from Beverley Callard, Sally Dynevor, Simon Gregson, Brooke Vincent, Helen Worth, Jane Danson, Sue Nicholls, Georgia May Foote and Tony Warren many others.

We'd love to know your thoughts on the documentary, please do let us know.

I love behind-the-scenes stuff. Had I not been so crippled by shyness in my teens, I would have studied to work in television. I can't wait to see this programme tonight!

I really enjoyed this! It made me laugh, cry, and realize just how much I really love this show! All the best to ITV for the continued love story.

Saddens me that there is never access to these specials in the US.

I wrote to ask the CBC if they plan to show it in Canada. If enough of us pester them, it might get results!

This is one of the best Corrie doc shows I've ever seen. Mr. Laurie was great as the voice of an original character from the times when the cobbles were just painted on an indoor set. The evolution of the show and the set was truly interesting. so many tidbits and insights that are not gossipy but truly part of this monumental production. A great show, worth doing your research to find it in Canada and the US.
