Coronation Street cast support Pride of Britain Awards 2013

The Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain campaign kicked off yesterday on the cobbles with a photo opportunity on Coronation Street.  Some of the Corrie cast turned out to back the search for the nation’s unsung heroes.

Helen Worth who plays Gail McIntyre, said: “I went to the very first Pride of Britain Awards. It is always a very emotive evening and a pleasure to be there, all those wonderful people who do so much for their communities and individuals who they have never met. You meet them afterwards and they are always so modest about the things they have done.”

Paula Lane, who plays Kylie Platt, said: “I am nominating a little boy called Oscar O’Sullivan Hughes from Wythenshawe. He is probably one of the bravest little boys I have met. He was born with a rare genetic disorder which meant he has been blind from birth. He is four now and despite his disability has helped to raise £50,000 for Henshaw’s Society for the Blind.”

Corrie’s Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, said: “I think it is important to honour those people you take for granted. Ambulance crews who you don’t think of for 364 days of the year until that one day you need them. These people day in day out do something special. These awards give us the chance to say thank you.”

Jack P Shepherd, 25, who plays Gail’s tearaway son David in the soap, said life savers and charity fundraisers should be honoured. He joked that Corrie’s saintly Emily Bishop was also worthy of an award.

Also pictured by the Pride of Britain bus were those two well-known Coronation Street extras who took our Candice off on tour with them as their 'urdresser.

Is Paula Lane pregnant in real life?

No. For a second I wondered that when I saw the picture, but I guess they just got them to pose in between scenes.

She has probably just been at the cream cakes and pies.
