The Corrie couple shuffle

And if you can say that 5 times quickly after a few pints of Newton and Ridley's, you get a star!

What does it mean? Well, I've been thinking about spoilers and speculating my little heart out this morning.

We know that Owen will be offered a share in the pub because Stella can't afford the rest of the renovations. My guess is that the insurance isn't going to come up with the money. Doesn't seem fair but Stella did remark that she wanted the work started before she heard back from the insurance and needed three quotes. I don't know if she actually got them and I reckon the insurance company is balking.

So, if this plays out as given, that Owen will be part owner of the pub, he's obviously not going to be a silent partner. Karl will not be long for our world since he's a murderer. He'll have to be caught or die trying. That's him out of the picture.

Cut across the road to Chateau Windass. Anna is struggling with Faye's desire to get to know her father, Tim, who's moved in across the road. Others have wondered if Tim and Anna could end up being a couple eventually, nudging bully boy Armstrong out the door. There you have the template for the couple shuffle.

Karl will be gone. Owen will be sticking his nose in the pub business and probably helping to pick up the pieces when St. Ella is all morose and upset after the revelations of Karl's dastardly deeds. Faye continues to cause ructions between Owen and Anna and their relationship breaks under the strain. Tim steps in, and Anna has finally got herself a nice guy (providing Tim proves to be that nice guy, no reason at this point to suspect otherwise but you never know...) while St. Ella has a stormy relationship with Owen. It's not the first time he's had his eye on the Rovers landlady (Liz). He may even have a hand in bringing Karl down, who knows, especially if Karl goes doolally and loses control.

What say you, dear readers? Worth a consideration?

I thought so up until this past week when we saw the manipulative side of Tim. When he was trying to maneuver himself out of the DVD viewing, he was clearly playing Faye with lines like, "Maybe I'll have a shower just in case." Up until this point, the writers have clearly made Anna hate him--there haven't been any soft encounters where she's seen the brighter side of him, and I'm not sure he even has a bright side.

As for St. Ella, I think the pub story line will lead more towards Owen ousting her (we've heard Michelle Connor might become landlady?). I think she'll go grovelling to Ryan and they'll continue their cougar-cub thing. Stella's just a bit too glam for gruff Owen.

I wonder if they'd pair St Ella up with Nick - her son-in-law - at some point?

I feel a bit queasy saying this but I could see Stella with Dev but keeping their separate homes. I'm betting Steve buys back into the Rovers and puts Michelle behind the bar. Tim leaves, realising he can't be the dad Faye wants, and Owen and Anna remain as they are.

The Faye storyline has been so far-fetched in that an adoptive mum would let her daughter live with the birth father without recourse to solicitors or social workers that I don't have sympathy for any of them.

This is nitpicking about Stella's insurance claim, but I remember reading on a spoiler site that the reason the insurance company rejects her claim is because they think Sunita used the pub keys to get in, in other words because Stella hadn't stored them in a safe place. I'm not sure whether that explanation is better or worse :/

Would Newton and Ridley not pay seen as they own it and Stella is just the landlady? Or have I got tht wrong?

FJH: Stella's just a bit too glam for gruff Owen..as if..ROTFLMAO!...or were you serious? I can't think of two more annoying and dull people to put together....God I hope not!

Newton and Ridley haven't owned the put for years, ever since Jack and Vera bought it. That was the storyline that ousted Bet Gilroy, she couldn't afford to buy it when the brewery put it up for private sale. Stella managed to scrape together a down payment to buy it from Steve.

I'm entirely serious; I don't think it's funny enough to merit a 'ROTFLMAO.' The whole reason Anna and Owen are coupled up is because how hard-working they are as well as how tough they are with raising their households. Why would he ever be paired with the woman who bred Eva the Diva?

Or maybe a freak earthquake will split the street, swallowing the entire Windass/Armstrong clan and Stella who elbowed her way into one of their scenes. Gloria does something stupid and becomes only the 3rd person ever to die at Weathy Gen. 75% of annoying character and storyline problems solved.

(Can you tell that there are certain characters I really don't care about?)

Doesn't Stella still owe money on the mortgage she took out on the Rovers when she paid off Karl's gambling debts?
And if so where did she get the 10,000 pounds she gave Owen to start the work on the Rovers?

These days the characters are little more than pieces on a boardgame, being shuffled around in ever more ludicrous pairings by a bunch of writers who are devoid of any original ideas for storylines. Stella and Jason? Ridiculous. Tracy and Rob? Ghastly. Katy and Ryan? Yawn. Stella and Karl? Who cares?

Oh. My. God. Two of the least-liked characters Landlords of the Rovers. I can't even sputter.

Isnt Stuart Blackburn the new producer famous for bizarre pairings?
