Some thoughts on last night's Corrie

Leanne always seems to end up back at Nick's door. Nick still has that soft spot for her and he wants to be her friend and confidant. He'd take her back in a minute and if she's been knocked back yet again, she could end up back in his arms, too. You can still see that longing in his eyes, can't you?

It can't have been the weekend, Dev picked up the kids from school. But Rick and his thugs managed to stomp all over the garage and beat the crap out of Tommy. Where was Tyrone? Kevin? And all that screaming out of Tina, did nobody hear it through the wall of the Kabin or from outside that thin metal door?

Someone please put an end to this appalling Karl and Stella thing. Please. Or at least let Dev get a clue.

It looks like Kirsty's actually making friends and fitting in with the girls in the factory. I like that she stood up to Carla and encouraged the strike on Eileen's behalf. Carla might just have met her match if she doesn't sack Kirsty first. But it had better be for a good reason or Kirsty will have her up in front of a tribunal. I don't understand why nobody else has in the past, not just Carla but many of the Underworld bosses have sacked folk for very little reason. One or two have threated action but most have always got their jobs back but it's a very real concern. You don't even hear most of the sackees threaten it as a rule.

Missing persons/characters in the cupboard:

Does Hayley still work in the factory? If they were a machinist down, where was she?
Where's Sylvia?
Chesney and Katy and the baby?
Things seem quiet on the Salon front. Is all forgiven?

The reason why the bosses get away with all manner of illegalities is that the factory exists on Planet Amnesia. It's a place where everyone is a brilliant machinist, there's no problem getting orders, bosses can go off on a 3 month break and get someone to deputise ... If you accept that, then the realities of employment law don't apply. I suppose that storyline was about making Kirsty more sympathetic but also more complex ie: she hates injustice but she can't stop being unjust towards Tyrone.

The fact that this knickerfaktry still operates on a back street in this day and age speaks directly to the Industrial Age mentality that must keep staff from making complaints - there is no employment law in their time zone.

I have to say that Nick has been (to my shock) growing on me lately, as he has done some decent things - perhaps there's hope for him (and Leanne), yet?

I am still chuckling over Tommy getting his lights punched out by some short over the hill tough guy who looked like a good fart would knock him over. It was actually pretty funny although I don't think it was meant to be.

Nick's grown on me lately too, with his few acts of genuine kindness. I didn't like Leanne's fawning looks at him though, when she went to the Bistro, feeling alone and needing a friend. If they stay good friends, that would be nice. I still don't trust Nick, who played on her insecurities when she was trying to stay faithful to Peter before the tram crash.

True, one of Rick's thugs was no match for Tommy, but I found that scene really hard to watch, especially with Tina being forced to observe it. Tommy was outnumbered too, and that beating went on for quite a while on our screens. Yea, why didn't anyone hear Tina screaming?

I'm finding Kirsty's niceness a little strange. She was never nice to anyone, neither at Tyrone's or at The Rovers. I guess her little talk with Fiz helped a bit, but that can't be enough for her to deal with her past, can it? And I was cheering when Eileen turned down Carla. Street Cars will now resume normal service!

As Frosty has said before the faktry is just a nonsensical place, far removed from the realities of life today. Almost every single one of the workshy employees has been given a chance by Carla and a job in these recessionary times - Fiz for example, an ex felon, who straight out of prison was given her job back by Carla. They repay this by going out on strike at the slightest provacation, even after they were oh so grateful to still have their jobs after the Frank Foster debacle. Kirsty is just a nasty piece of work, freshly sacked herself from the Police Force, she is an aggressive trouble maker.

Kirsty certainly does a great "crazy face" and seems more interesting than Tracy... but only marginally.
