Top 60 Corrie Characters - No. 9

9. Hayley Cropper 1998- (123 votes)

Introduced as a supervisor at Firman’s Freezers supermarket who befriended Alma Baldwin, Hayley caused controversy as being the first transsexual character in Corrie history. But over the years, viewers have grown to accept Hayley for who she is and she has become a firm favourite, as this poll shows, ranking her at number nine.

Soon after her arrival, Hayley and her red anorak were paired off with eccentric greasy spoon owner Roy Cropper and although hesitant at first, Roy also accepted who Hayley was and in 1999, as they couldn’t marry, they were blessed. Hayley was soon hired as a machinist at the factory, a job she has continued to do since then and for many years now has the become the supervisor. Hayley has shown a maternal instinct over the years and has taken in many including Wayne Hayes, Fiz Brown, Chesney Brown and Becky Granger and has become an agony aunt to many of the residents.

Roy and Hayley are one of soap’s most secure couples but it hasn’t always been plain sailing for them – Hayley’s been in prison for kidnapping; Roy attempted suicide due to toxic Tracy’s torment when she lied about Roy fathering her daughter Amy when it was in fact Steve McDonald; the revelation that Hayley had fathered a son; and Roy being nearly drowned by Tony Gordon.

Should Hayley be at 9? Should she be in the top 10? Are you a fan? Leave a comment!

I love Hayley! Amazing character.

Although being born with Gender Dysphoria, Hayley is one of the more "normal" characters in Corrie.

No, she's not one of the top ten all-time characters.
