Nick Tilsley shows worrying signs of maturity this week when Eva decides he’s too old to be still living with his mum - and he doesn’t disagree. Egged on by Eva, he goes to view a flat, with Gail tagging along for the ride. And her verdict after the viewing? “I could sense death in that toilet.” There’s probably a special Harpic you can buy.
But never mind the loo of death, it’s a teenage lesbian wedding we need to talk about now. Done up in matching meringues, Sian and Sophie prepare to exchange vows at the church before it all goes screechingly wrong. Kevin tries to have words with Sophie before church, words about Amber and not being committed to Sian but Sophie doesn’t want to hear. She marches up the aisle and just as the girls are about to swap “I do’s”, Kevin blurts out to all present that his daughter’s having second thoughts. Sophie falters at the altar as Sally with her fascinator and Sunita without join in Kevin’s hymn until there was a chorus of dissenters and tears streaming down Sophie’s face. Anyway, the wedding’s called off and Sian leaves the Street driven away by her mum. Not many have left the Street driven away by their mum. I liked it, it was a nice touch. Sophie spends the rest of the week in tears, telling anyone who’ll listen that her life is over without Sian and she’s got nowt to live for, not now.
Bad news for those of us who aren’t fans of Stella Price. This week Karl takes Stella’s Christmas present of cash from her Aunty Vi and puts it on a nag at the bookies where it wins big. This means Karl and Stella are closer to putting down a deposit to buy The Rovers Return. Tune in for next week’s Stellanation Street.
Over at freaky Frank’s factory, the wonderful Beth returned to Coronation Street and got herself a job as a knicker stitcher. As the country goes into recession, the bottom clearly hasn’t dropped out of women’s pants. Frank’s mum Anne doesn’t want Beth working for them, she’s clearly too common for someone like Anne but Frank knows Beth’s a grafter and gives her a job. She says: “I’m so glad I glued me false tooth in now.”
Meanwhile Anne pays Carla a visit at her flat and tells her if she drops the charges against Frank she can have Underworld back. It’s Bribery 101 and it’s all heard by Peter but as he’s hiding in the bedroom, it’ll have to be Carla’s word against Anne’s for now. Carla finds out that Frank’s hosting a drinks party at home for Underworld clients, so she storms round there and gives a little speech, letting Frank’s customers know just what a sleaze ball he is. Mind you, it’s something that Sally hasn’t cottoned on to just yet, and she’s there at the drinks do, all dolled up. At the end of the night when it’s just Frank and Sally alone on the sofa with the red wine, he tells her the wine reminds him of her. “It’s strong yet delicate, with subtle undertones,” he coos as Sally leans in for a snog. But he clearly doesn’t know Sally very well. She’s more of a cheap and fruity, little cheeky Lambrini.
Down at Nick’s Bistro, there’s a speed dating night. Julie and Marcus plot to get Eileen there in her best bib and tucker in the hope that she’ll meet someone who’ll take her mind off Fireman Paul and the romance that is going nowhere. Eileen spends five minutes being speed dated by a Grumbleweed before telling him to sling his hook and she pushes him against the fire alarm in the bar. The alarm goes off, the fire crew arrives lead by Fireman Paul and the romance that is going nowhere looks like it’s back on.
And finally this week, Rosie gets a new agent and a new modeling job but when she finds out that she’s modelling cycling wear, she’s not best pleased. She’s even less happy when the agent eyes up Jason for some man modeling too.

Would Carla who always seemed so emotionless and measured really have gone around to her rapists house right before the court case and make a scene like that right in front of ex clients and people that know her? She could at least to have had the nous to record Anne's offer on her phone. More excuses to ring Peter I suppose.
Doesn't Frank still have that whole switching seats in the car thing to hold over Carla's head when Carla hit Stella??

I usually follow Corrie from this site but living in Canada and just getting cable means I've started tuning in to Corrie here. Stella's accent doesn't bother me but her wimpy mother teresa act is already annoying and she's just told Leanne that she's her mother. Fiz has just been arrested and her new, crying and whining personality is equally irritating. However, seeing and hearing Carla in action, I am now utterly satisfied that she is not such an evil and heartless bitch as some portray her in these comments; I've noticed that whenever someone is in trouble (woman)she steps up to look out for them. Today, her compassion and sympathy for Fiz while she was being hauled away by police was obvious in the way she helped her outside. People seem to read her as a two-dimensional character but the deepth is in the little details.
