Reminder: "Farewell Liz" Wednesday 20th April at 7.30pm

We're getting treated to a Corrie Special to pay tribute to the character of Liz McDonald.

'Farewell Liz' airs Wednesday 20 April at 7.30pm, following Liz's departure from the cobbles.

Actress Beverley Callard will be reminiscing about her 22 years on the show, with tributes from her onscreen family Charles Lawson (Jim), Simon Gregson (Steve) and Nicholas Cochrane (Andy), and a host of other co-stars.

Nice to see ITV are celebrating the departure of landmark character like Liz with a special like this, they are great to watch!

Ohhhh no... I don't...an hour of everyone saying just lovely things about an annoying character... I wouldn't put the character of Liz up there with the icons... far from it. Nothing personal about the actress -- just that the character no matter the years on the show just doesn't warrant the attention....

Well Anonymous I am going to use the old cliche that if you dont like the content, dont watch it, simples.

I am looking forward to this. I didnt think much of Liz in the early days when she had that frizzy hair, but she has grown as a character and one me to be one of Corrie's stalwarts and dare I say, Icons.

I, too, think that Liz has become one of Corrie's 'big' characters. In fact, all of the McDonalds, with the exception of Andy, made their mark and the relationships between them have always made great viewing. Having Big Jim back at the moment is just great, so it is, and I think it's a shame they won't all be around for longer together. I've always enjoyed the hapless Liz, zig-zag necklace and all, and will be sorry to see her go.

I dont think she deserves it...not the way she treated her employers and fans in the last few months. i know she had a mental illness last year but no explanation given for her recent leave. she went AWOL in October and has since been seen grinning from ear to ear on loose women and covers of hello magazine.

The only McDonald that's really had an impactful role is Steve. And that's due to good writing and good acting. The character of Steve will be unforgettable. The rest of the McDonalds are pretty forgettable -- including Liz. I say good riddance to a character that didn't make much of an impact one way or the other to the life of the Rovers or its punters... not in the way Bet or Annie did. This character so pales by comparison.

Some characters stick around for a lot of years and we love them, others stick around for alot of years and we love to hate them. For me Liz falls somewhere in between. Regardless of what you think of her, Liz has been on the street for a long time and therefore deserves some kind of recognition.

Liz left on 14/04 but the Farewell Liz special airs tomorrow night. I do think she's become a memorable character. Maybe not quite icon since she's had several long breaks over the years but certainly one of the better known ones. Steve is definitely on his way to icon status and could possibly be there already as he's been on the show nearly continuously since late 1989, almost as long as Sally Webster who started in 1986. Sally is one of the new generation icons.

I really liked Liz..she was so quirky and the hairdoo's and skimpy clothing..a riot...and didn't take sh!t from anybody. The last bit with Steve and Becky and the whole robbery thing was IMO a quick rushed together storyline that stank like week old nappies. Surely they could have come up with a better ending for Liz than having her just effing off in a taxi in the middle of the night.

I watcheds this and enjoyed but noticed that Liz/Bev was one of the very few women that looks better in her fifties than she did when young, when she was actually quite funny looking. Thank god for Botox and cosmetic procedures1
