And so it goes. This time, a Streetcars cab rather than a black cab but the end result is the same. Eddie's gone and leaving us all bereft.
I've just finished watching tonight's episodes and I have to say, I was more upset watching Anna and Eddie split up than I expected. Watching them, watching Gary's upset and Anna's and Eddie's tears, I could feel a suspicious dampness in my eye region myself and was really sorry to see him ride away in the cab. As sad as I was to see Liz go, I wasn't swallowing hard. That's probably because Bev Callard has been absent more than she'd been on screen over the past year or two and her return and leaving storyline was kind of naff really.
Eddie's leaving storyline was also somewhat abbreviated but it made more sense. He only went along with the adoption for Anna's sake, not really expecting it to happen and got backed into a corner when it did. Because Faye was not an easy child to settle in, he found it overwhelming. He had the chance at a fresh start but Anna wouldn't go with him and that was it. She loves him but not enough to marry him, something he's wanted for awhile but only started asking her after it was too late. She's found the courage to be alone where she never had it before.
It's a very sad breakup because you know they both still love each other but want very different things out of life as they approach middle age. As others have said, Steve Huison turned Eddie from a stereotype ignoramus into an ignormamus we all adore, one with layers and a big heart under all that hair and string vest. We'll all miss him here at Blog Towers and wish Steve the best of luck.
Keep in touch with @SteveHuison on Twitter. If you pass him on the street, remember, he looks like this now.

I admire your indefatigable positivity, but Eddie Windass' departure just showed how wrong Collinson was to get rid of him. His departure was moving because he can act. It is beyond me why he is axed, when the likes of Dev "Mr Plank of Wood" Alahan and Nick "Too Old and Two Expressions" Tilsley remain.
His departure was also absolutely ridiculous. People walk into the minefield of taking on stepchildren for love. Are we seriously meant to believe that Eddy would walk out on a happy relationship, and away from existing son, because he might have to play Dad to one girl for 4 or 5 years?
Got a little lump in my throat reading this blog post! Great episode, great review; Eddie and Steve Huison will be missed,
I totally agree with "Anonymous" above. I think most of us absolutely hated the Windasses when they first arrived (particularly Eddie), but the actors sterling work slowly made people like me warm to him, and the partnership of Eddie and Anna was very special indeed. Yet Dev Alahan, possibly the worst actor in the entire 50 years of the programme goes on and on and on. I was thrilled when Phil Collinson was first announced as the new producer, as he'd done such sterling work on Doctor Who, but now I can't wait for him to leave, as he seems to make one bad decision after another.
I know, it's just not fair that someone like Steve Huison is made to leave and we have to suffer the likes of Tracy Barlow.
It won't be the same without him, I love him!
I too think he was great on the show, everyone seems to like him, so why did they get rid of him. He will be missed and it won't be the same without him. Maybe they can have him come back?????
Makes you wonder if Phil Collinson has inhaled too many toxic fumes from all the black cab departures lately, though maybe they are paving the way for Anna to have a relationship with another street resident...Bill? Her and Eddie were never married so no obstacle there. Lame storyline for Eddie's departure and it won't be the same without him. I would have loved the exchanges between him and Sylvie.....sigh. K
Am I the only one who won't miss Eddie? He's been barely used for months. Since he was defanged shortly after arrival - making him get a job and stop scrounging, getting rid of his walking stick, getting rid of his dodgy schemes - he's just been a bit of a slimeball. It's become increasingly unlikely that he and Anna would be together.
