There has to be some redeeming aspect of the personality. Becky is far from being one-dimensional but unfortunately her two personalities are polar opposites. One minute she's in 'lovely mummy' mode and the next she's punching someone's lights out. The swift swapping between one and the other has become boring and more than a little irritating. Have the Coronation Street storyliners reached a point of no return?
However, the one redeeming moment was when Becky turfed Liz out of the Rovers. With her ghastly new hairstyle, Liz behaved with the dignity of a shrieking Harvester barmaid and, for me at any rate, has never had enough gravitas to carry off the role of landlady. Maybe I'll give Becky a hand in throwing out some of Liz's tatty old skirts.
Back to the matter in hand. Is there a future for Becky and, if so, how should the storyliners devlop her character?

Seems to me it is only in the last 15 years that people have started to say "bored of" instead of "bored with", which was previously the norm. It started in the US but has now spread to the UK.And now it has invaded Corrie.
I swing back and forth on Becky. I find her a very well drawn and plausible character, considering her background. A little goes a long way, though!
I think she was too over-developed in a small amount of time. She was better at the Croppers than the Rovers imo. I don't know how she can continue to remain in the programme as she's had too many storylines in one time. Look at Emily - she didn't get married for 11 years after her first appearance.
I really find that i'm blaming Liz for antagonizing her and on purpose. She wanted Becky to go off the rails so Steve would dump her. I"m not saying Liz doesn't have good reason to dislike Becky but she went beyond by pushing and pushing like that.
I think it'd be tough for viewers (at least all the viewers who are sick of the character and voicing their wish to see her gone) to give Becky a chance to redeem herself. I do think the PTB have completely ruined the character. Personally, I've started to watch the show, get put off by Becky, leave it thinking I'll ITV-player-catch-up, but now I'm darn near a month behind because I always end up watching something else that engages me, because Becky and other stories in Corrie right now sure don't. I actually enjoy Corrie guestbook and viewer interaction much more than the show. But, I've been there before, so I'm hopeful stories will get better...
I'm bored of Becky, she's an overused character and her storylines are so repetitive. I find her completely unlikeable, she really ruins Corrie for me.
Naw..can't get rid of. She's a bit over the top but I really liked it when she put the boots to Kylie..the 'old' Becky was back, if only for a brief minute. Too bad she didn't give Liz AND Steve a right good smack too!!
I too am bored with Becky. I think her story lines are now exhausted and she needs a long prison sentence.

I'm the opposite here, I have finally warmed to Becky. After the tram crash I enjoyed seeing Old Becky and New Becky combined, ie, stealing and lying, but to get Max back. It highlighted Becky's journey and progression for me.
I think the addition of Kylie has given more scope to her storylines. Her loyalties are going to be dragged between Steve, Kylie and Max so all 4 sides of her personality may come into play at once instead of one end of the scale to the other like usual.
I also think without Liz constantly being in the middle of her and mummy-boy Steve, they might be able to develop their relationship without interference.
I would personally prefer more of the old Becky to come to the fore, ditch Steve and become independent.
The first quite ridiculous OTT non going back story of Becky for the viewers was the disastrous wedding when she ran around getting wasted, and couldn’t marry for that reason. (I think that was the only ever episode of Corrie I never managed to the end as it was just too bad) After that she became a caricature rather than a character. Katherine is a terrific actress and that’s why the PTB ‘promoted’ Becky from the cafe to the Rovers. But as somebody else said it was too soon and they have overused her talents as an actress with the most ridiculous of stories.
Becky so wanted to be a mother, couldn’t, the refusal of the adoption and then bonded with Max - and people in their right minds don’t go round buying children. But this isn’t the first time in Coronation Street – but that’s soaps for you. And seeing as Max had lived with them since the summer and was settled, when Kylie reappeared Becky did panic...... she stole from the safe, which was awful. I, along with some mother’s quite often say things like “I’d lay my life for my kids” – well is this the kind of thing we mean? It’s desperately wrong and shameful but what *would* have happened to Max? We know Kylie doesn’t care. Becky does care and love Max. Becky says in the 50th episode that she knows what it was like to go from foster home to foster home, she doesn’t want him to end up with the same kind of life. She has apologised until she is blue in the face to all concerned. So, was she thinking of herself when she looted the safe? AND, she didn’t know that Tracy would find out and take Tracy away from Steve. Deep down I think this is why Steve is still with her.I am not condoning her actions by a long chalk but there are so many comments saying Becky is selfish..... I just thought I’d take it from another angle.
Yep. I agree with the last two comments, Beth and Ange in Aus. I have warmed to Becky (Or was doing until she lost it) It's a shame what TPTB are doing to the character really, after I felt she was growing on me. And yes, Steve is not only a mummys boy, but also a passive agressive with no backbone.
Of course the big reason Becky panicked when Kylie reappeared on the night of the tram crash was because Kylie had snuck Max out of the pub and thus had physical custody, rendering Becky powerless to protect him. Everything that has happened since has snowballed out of that moment of blind panic when all she could think about was getting him back because she didn't trust Kylie to look after him.
@Llywela - It didn't so much snowball from the night of the
50th but pretty much from the day they bought Max imo. A bad move from the off.
Is Becky the selfish one? Kylie is the selfish one..... She was the one who SOLD her child and came back for more! and what Becky sees is her life falling apart for loving Kylie's child while she, Kylie, lives accross the road like Lady Dock, not caring two hoot's about anybody but herself and where the next scam and pound comes from.
If everybody knew the 'real' truth on the street and if they had to , who would they side with?
Social Services in this country are in a far worse state than I imagine. They seem to have lost the file on Max and consequently all interest in him.
After all, as far as Social Services know, Max is still living with the woman who cares for him so much that she sold him and is so cold hearted that she can return to live in the same street, without any apparent feelings or interest in him.
I agree with Beth completely. I still have sympathy for Becky, she's been a victim of circumstance and bad luck.
Becky is a better mother than Kylie or Tracy, that's for sure.
Get rid of her.
