Behind the scenes pics from the Corrie set

Recently, Digital Spy member markyboy35 got a tour of the Coronation Street set and even managed to get a sneak peek at the new D&S Alahan's Mini-Market set and the new Kabin!

The Kabin looks roughly the same, with just a little sprucing up, the Corner Shop however looks to have doubled in size, and now looks more like what you expect a modern day shop to look like.

The exterior street set looks a little different as there is a distinct mix of old red brick and new red brick in several places, the Corner Shop's new frontage no longer looks to follow the old red and beige colour scheme (then again, neither did 2004's short lived red and blue colour scheme.)

Take a look at the gallery of pics here (Thanks to markyboy35 for sharing the pictures with us!)

Wow, lucky Markyboy! I wonder if the post office will reappear in the Kabin or if it has been perhaps discreetly dumped in that big yellow wheelie bin?!

I hope they drop the Post Office branding on the shop, it hasnt been one for years now xD then again, if they do decide to bring back the Post office counter, good on them xD

Speaking of the yellow wheelie bin...I bet Rita's thrown Norris in there!

Excellent! Thanks for sharing!

that whole 'modern day shop' line has me giggling. Why? Well, after some renovation work here, we got a brand new 'modern day shop' - however, while the outside and inside is fresh, I have my doubts about the quality of anything edible.
Mouldy onions, apples yellow with the skin turning and mushrooms with a rather suspect shelf-life among other 'crimes against freshness'.
Here's to the new 'corner shop' and here's hoping that it's a fair crack better than what I have to put up with! Even Fat Brenda wouldn't shop in my local!!
(talk about over-inflated prices to put you off too..!)

I wonder if Coronation Street is considered to be a conservation area as there is no sign of a satellite dish anywhere. If that's the case, anybody using new red brick instead of reclaimed red brick would face a hefty bill as they were forced to replace it. I saw this happen when I live in a CA and the house next door had its slates replaced with modern tiles and was forced to redo the whole roof :)

Exactly - A modern day corner shop :p

I noticed the lack of satillite dishes (on all but two houses lol)

I do wonder what the authorities might have to say about selling fags under the banner of Medicine and booze under Pet Food.

Yes, there are two satellite dishes on the street, on opposite sides of the road, pointing in different directions!

Looks like he deleted them, they were there when I looked on my phone but can't see them online?

The pics are still there when I look, anyone else having trouble seeing them?

Chewy, what are "xD" and ":p" supposed to indicate? Thanks.

Chewy said...

Ah, I hate using them but its a habbit from the days I used to go on MSN

xD - basically just "lol" in smiley form

:p - just sticking a tounge out, like meant in jest or being a little cheeky

Thanks, Chewy, you cheeky boy, you!

I've always wondered...what's the point of two corner shops on the same street directly opposite each other? Do the residents of the street really need two small corner shops? Plus is anyone else wondering whats happened to the kebab shop- not seen it in ages!

Each of the two shops sells different things. Dev's sells mainly food, booze and the Kabin also sells fags, newspapers, magazines, stationery, candy. They probably both do things like pop, crisps and snacks, also cigarettes though i would think the Kabin has a larger selection of those.

Thanks Tvor, didn't know. I can imagine that customers in both shops would need a ciggie with either Norris or Dev behind the counter!

I can't access any photographs of the kabin or shop on markyboy35's photobucket site, just shots of the exterior set. Perhaps they have been removed because they are spoilers?

Chewy. Local supermarket price hype-ups are:

Pringles £2.49
Bovril cubes £1.15
bag of wotsits 79p
small blocks of cheese approaching its sell by date £1.29 (which is why it's cheap :-p)
bag of sugar £1.05
assorted frozen food items that you wouldn't put in the bin at any point because they already look like they've been there, so why buy them? prices range from £1.50 to £4.00

shop local? not even if I was *desperate*

Hi, Im Markyboy! I am very lucky indeed! My friends dad is a Director so I it was a real treat getting to visit the set! Its a very surreal experience seeing the street, the interiors (extremely small) and of course the actors! We saw several scenes being filmed and were actually six feet from Steve, Becky, Dev and Sunita filming a scene in the Rovers back room. We chatted briefly after scene and all were very friendly! I'm going back soo and this time I'm actually going to be an extra!!! Will post more photos when I've been!

Feel free to ask me any questions!
