William Roache gets a commemorative Ken cake

To celebrate Coronation Street’s 50th anniversary and William Roache breaking the world record for the longest serving character in a soap opera as Ken Barlow, the Variety Club Bolton hosted a spectacular event to mark the occasion, which raised money for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery helped their local charity commemorate an event by creating a very special cake to present at the ceremony along with Jack and Vera gingerbread characters for all the guests.

After much deliberation over how to decorate the cake, one of the many fight scenes between Mike Baldwin and Ken Barlow was chosen.

William told journalists he planned to take the cake to the Street and share it with the rest of the cast.
