Baby's Gone: Mon Mar 1, 2010 Corrie Episode Review

Written by Julie Jones (7:30) and Jan McVerry (8:30), directed by Ian Bevitt

Over breakfast, Steve and Becky egg Liz on about why she really hired Ciaran. Becky tells her that she's a "cougar." That's an older woman who likes having a go at younger fellas. She then points out it's a syndrome or something. Liz hair looks great by the way, just thought I'd mention it. Ciaran comes in and tells her he's sorry about the night before - he was out of line. Ciaran admits that she's very attractive, but they do have to work together.

Meanwhile, Becky comes out of the ladies, looking worse for wear. She shows up behind the bar with a bad attitude shoving Steve off and taking a swig of booze. Uh oh. Liz makes Steve have a word with her, since she thinks Becky's been drinking. Steve finds that Becky's been drinking vodka, and Liz throws in an "I told ya so." Steve is initially angry at Becky for drinking, until she tells him that she had miscarried their baby. Becky runs away, with Steve after her. Liz watches this and tries to put a dig in but is silenced when Steve tells her what's happened.

Steve looks for Becky at Roy's Rolls, but she's not there. He tells Hayley what happened, but not to tell anyone and continues his search. I'd try the next drinking hole, if I were him. Instead, he goes to the cabbie office and tells Lloyd, who didn't even know Becky was pregnant, that he's miscarried. Lloyd figures that Becky might be a the hospital or something getting herself checked out. Steve's not happy that Becky's pushed him out again. Steve finds Becky being literally thrown out of a bar and has to drag her away, again. Becky eventually breaks down figuring she'll never be a mum. Steve tries to tell her that miscarriages just happen sometimes.

Dev is down in the dumps since he's blown it with Sunita, again. Dev labels himself, officially, a prize idiot. Couldn't have labelled it any better myself. Dev goes into town for some retail therapy. Meanwhile, Sunita comes to the shop when Dev's gone, looking for him. Molly tells Sunita how Dev is gutted by the fact that he blew it so Sunita says she'll wait for Dev in the Rovers.

Sunita goes to the Rovers and sees Ciaran there, and is happy to see him by the looks of it. Dev hurries to the flat, but Sunita's already being entertained by Ciaran so he immediately leaves. What, why? Sunita sees Dev in the street and he tells her how he saw her with Ciaran, and feels like a fool when Sunita calls him an idiot. Only, she then invites him for a drink. Well, this is a rather pleasant side of her. Sunita tells Dev that she wants to make sure he's listening to her. Sunita tells Dev she wants them to be a family again, but slowly.

Molly asks Sophie how her mum is, and is told that Sally's doing well and Molly has her give them her best. I can't believe she's still warm over Kevin, after the way he's treated her.

Tina tells Gail and David that she just wants Joe's body laid to rest. Norris asks Tina when she'll be back to work, and that it might be helpful for her. Tina just wishes everyone would stop talking about her father's death all the time. Norris reckons that if there is karma, Gail must have been someone wicked in a past life. The thought had crossed my mind.

Gail doesn't want to have to lie to the police again, over the phone, but David says they have no choice. Gail wishes she had taken more time to just spend time with Joe. I think she she put a lot into that relationship, but I suppose we all have regrets sometimes.

Tina is haunted by her father's death and Jason thinks she might need to see someone. Tina tells him she just needs to get away from everyone and wants to go to the lake, where it happened. Jason thinks it's morbid, but agrees to go anyway.

The police arrive at Gail's, and ask about the mobile phone, but Gail says they haven't found anything. David says they chucked a bunch of stuff out and it might have gone with that. The detectives ask Gail if Rick Neelan (Slick Rick) came to their house. Gail says they did, and that he was even at their wedding reception. The detectives tell them they've picked Rick up and will be questioning him about Joe's death.

The police start taking evidence from Gail's house - including David's laptop, which he's not happy about. What will facebook do without David's status updates? Crumble, I'd reckon. When the detectives are rooting through Gail's house for evidence they find the life insurance policy that Joe had taken out and looked shocked to see it. Erm, didn't Gail tell them that this is why Joe was planning on staging his own death? Pothole! Right away, the detectives conclude that Gail knew Joe was worth more dead.

Tina didn't have the experience at Lake Windermere she perhaps thought she might have. She notices the detectives at Gail's and brusquely asks them what's going on. Tina finds her father's diary in their evidence box, only to get it taken back by the detective. The detectives drop the bomb on Tina and tell her that when the text and flowers were sent, her father was already dead. They tell Tina that it was Gail who sent the flowers and text, since she felt sorry for her. After the cops leave, Tina immediately runs over to Gail's to confront her about this new information. Tina figures if they hadn't sent that text and flowers that she'd have gone looking for him earlier. Tina thinks she could have tracked him down and saved him. We all know it was too late for that. Gail figures Tina's right because if she hadn't covered for Joe, he might be alive now. She thinks she's as good as killed him.

Janice visits Leanne and realizes that she's overworking herself at the bookies for twelve hours a day. Leanne figures she can't complain because she knew what Peter was like when she came back to him. Carla notices that Leanne's down and proposes a girl's night out on the town.

Leanne's in her dressing gown getting ready when suddenly Peter comes through the front door looking fresh as rain and asks for a snog. Peter thought it'd be romantic for her to sweep her off her feet, but she's not happy to see him home so soon. Leanne figures if he seems good, he must be. Needless to say, Peter's not happy to know that Simon's in Spain without him knowing. Peter doesn't really believe that Simon's at George's place in Spain. Leanne reminds Peter that he might have bounced back from his last fall off the wagon, but Simon hasn't and he needed the break with George. Peter says that he learned in recovery that the hardest part is the people in your life that don't want you to change. Leanne asks him if he thinks she wants to spend the rest of her life with some useless lush and to grow up.

After having a drink in the Rovers in her dressing gown, and Liz's borrowed fur coat, Peter finds her and picks her up off her feet again.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Steve: "There are some things you don't want in your head and your mum molesting somebody half her age is one of 'em."
- Becky sticking up for Liz in case anyone makes fun of her for being a "cougar."
- Norris saying that Mary's head is in the clouds. Oh, I'd say it's a lot higher than that!
- Carla reminding Leanne that she has to look after herself, since no one's going to do it for her. This is good advice, ladies (and some gents).
- Dev getting "caught in a jumper." He realized it was too small once he got it on and he couldn't get it off. Molly says she hates it when that happens. This happens to a lot of people? Haha.
- Ciaran yelling and pointing, "she's gone thataway!" pointing to the direction in which Becky left to Steve. I just thought it was really randomly funny.
- Leanne telling Peter where to go when he tries to make her out as a bad guy for why things aren't going the way he wants it to in his life. Honestly!
- Leanne sat in the Rovers in her dressing gown, pyjama pants and Liz's fur coat. Funny how she thought that asking Liz for a coat would disguise herself and prevent people from looking at her. Should have asked Hayley for hers.
- Michelle Keegan's acting through this storyline has been fantastic, at least for a soap!

LOWLIGHTS

- Tina being bereft over her father's death and Jason suggesting she see someone about it. He's only just died, being this upset is only natural.
- Leanne slaving away at the bookies for twelve hours a day. Why doesn't she just hire someone to pick up some shifts?
- Peter back early from rehab. He's like an undercooked turkey.
- Why are the police surprised to see the insurance policy now? Wouldn't Gail have mentioned it as the reason Joe was going to fake his death. Didn't they ask that before?
- Gail thinking she's as much as killed Joe. Oh, poor Gail.

Looking forward to: Seeing what will come of Liz and Ciaran, if anything.

NOT looking forward to: Another drunken rampage spell by Becky McDonald. Let's hope it ends at this episode.

What was that all about with Leanne in her pjs in the street yesterday? If she was getting ready for a night out with Carla, why was she in her nightwear? Thought the miscarrage was unrealistic, at the stage of pregenancy she was, Becky would have needed some kind of medical treatment, not just going off on the booze. She is becoming a tiresome character imo.

I predict that Michelle Keegan's career will follow that of Sarah Lancashire & Suranne Jones in a few years time - if she wants it to and makes the right choices.

Of course Becky should have had some medical intervention but this is Becky, typical.

And yeah, getting caught in a jumper...you get it on and it's a bit tight so you think, no this won't do but it's a little too tight around the shoulders and it can be difficult to get off!
